Sustainable packaging has a credibility problem.

A big one.

I’ve read enough supplier decks to know the usual routine: a kraft-paper background, three green leaves, perhaps a photograph of a forest, then the word recyclable printed in a typeface that looks reassuringly expensive. Somewhere behind that presentation, however, there may be a PET window, metallised film, EVA insert, permanent adhesive, two magnets and enough empty volume to ship a modest houseplant.

But the carton is brown.

So, apparently, everything’s fine.

It isn’t.

Here’s the ugly truth: much of what passes for sustainable packaging sourcing is still conventional purchasing with environmental adjectives bolted onto the RFQ. Procurement asks for “eco-friendly options.” The supplier selects a greener-looking substrate. Marketing writes a claim. Nobody weighs the separate components, checks the collection system, traces the certified material through the converter or asks whether the new dieline survives 85% relative humidity during ocean freight.

That approach looks responsible in a presentation.

On the line? Different story.

I frankly believe buyers should retire one question immediately:

“Do you offer sustainable materials?”

It’s too easy. Nearly every packaging supplier can answer yes, because almost any substrate can be presented as sustainable when the boundary of the comparison is kept conveniently narrow.

Ask this instead:

  • Which component did you remove?
  • How many grams did the complete pack lose?
  • Is the percentage based on the whole package or one part?
  • Is the recycled content post-consumer or clean factory trim?
  • Which recycler accepts the finished, printed and glued construction?
  • Can the consumer separate the components without tools?
  • Who owns the environmental claim if a regulator challenges it?
  • Will the lighter structure still pass compression, vibration and drop testing?
  • Does the certificate cover the actual converting company?
  • What appears on the sales invoice?

That last one catches people.

Sustainable Packaging Is a Procurement System, Not a Material Swap

A buyer once approves a paper conversion because plastic is unpopular. The new paper pack is heavier, uses a barrier coating that the local mill doesn’t want, occupies more pallet volume and needs a second liner to protect the product.

Progress?

Maybe not.

Sustainable packaging is packaging that protects the product while reducing measurable environmental and social harm across raw-material sourcing, conversion, printing, packing, transport, use and recovery. It isn’t one material. It isn’t one logo. And it certainly isn’t a beige colour palette.

The word that matters is measurable.

Without package weights, component records, chain-of-custody documents, test protocols and defined recovery assumptions, sustainability becomes a creative direction—nice for the brand book, useless for responsible packaging procurement.

I’d start with subtraction.

Not substitution.

The US Environmental Protection Agency’s waste hierarchy places source reduction ahead of recycling, and its National Strategy to Prevent Plastic Pollution, released on November 21, 2024, calls for lower consumption of single-use plastics, more reuse and refill capacity, lifecycle measurement and stronger producer responsibility. That’s not a minor wording change. It shifts attention upstream, before the package becomes waste.

Think about the common sourcing sequence:

  1. Design a generous package.
  2. Add an insert.
  3. Add decorative finishes.
  4. Discover that the result looks wasteful.
  5. Replace one component with a certified or recycled version.
  6. Call the entire thing sustainable.

Backwards.

A stronger sequence looks more like this:

  1. Remove the component nobody needs.
  2. Tighten the internal dimensions.
  3. reduce avoidable headspace.
  4. Check whether one substrate can perform two jobs.
  5. Protect the product adequately—not theatrically.
  6. Select materials with verified sourcing or recycled content.
  7. Design separation around actual human behaviour.
  8. Test the finished pack.
  9. Approve only claims that the evidence can carry.

And yes, this sometimes means challenging the premium unboxing concept that took the creative team three months to love.

That’s the work.

For paper-led projects, reviewing different custom paper packaging formats can help the team compare folding cartons, corrugated mailers, bags and tubes before defaulting to a heavy rigid construction. The useful question isn’t “Which one looks greenest?” It’s “Which structure meets the brief with the least unnecessary material and air?”

Air is expensive.

Brands ship plenty of it.

A sustainability review should therefore begin with a packaging bill of materials and a dimensional audit, not a substrate swatch. Measure the outer size, inner size, board caliper, resin gauge, insert volume, finished weight, master-carton count and pallet utilisation. Suddenly, the conversation gets less romantic.

It also gets useful.

The 2024 Regulations Changed the Sourcing Conversation

For years, some businesses treated sustainable packaging as a voluntary brand-positioning exercise. Better storytelling. Better shelf impression. Perhaps a sustainability page buried in the footer.

That era is fading.

Quickly.

Packaging rules are moving into weight reduction, reuse targets, recycled-content thresholds, restricted substances, labelling, reporting and producer-funded waste systems. In other words, the package is becoming a regulated data object—not merely a printed container.

Procurement will feel this first.

Europe Is Regulating the Entire Package Lifecycle

Here’s the number I keep coming back to: 186.5 kilograms.

That was the approximate amount of packaging waste generated per person in the EU in 2022. Of that total, 36 kilograms was plastic packaging. Half a kilogram of packaging waste, per person, per day. It’s hard to look at those numbers and argue that minor label changes will fix the system.

On December 16, 2024, the Council of the European Union formally adopted its packaging and packaging-waste regulation. The rules cover the whole lifecycle and include package minimisation, restrictions on selected single-use formats, reuse obligations, recycled-content targets and labelling requirements. Certain single-use plastic bottles can face minimum recycled-content levels of up to 65% by 2040. (consilium.europa.eu)

Read the phrase whole lifecycle again.

That language matters because it makes the old shortcut—judging a pack by its dominant visible material—much harder to defend. A box might appear to be paper-based, while its practical recovery depends on whether a consumer removes the window, tears out the magnet, separates the ribbon, notices the laminated wrap and recognises which bin accepts the foam insert.

Most won’t.

I wouldn’t.

Not while standing in a kitchen with three bins, tiny disposal symbols and a child asking where the scissors went.

So the sustainable packaging guide used by a European-facing brand should record each component separately: paperboard grade, recycled percentage, film polymer, coating chemistry, adhesive type, ink system, foil area, insert material and total package weight. Otherwise, the compliance review is working from a silhouette.

A carton is not “paper” simply because paper covers more than half its surface.

That’s lazy classification.

And regulators appear less willing to tolerate it.

The EU rules also call for minimising substances of concern, with restrictions addressing PFAS in food-contact packaging above specified thresholds. For procurement teams, this creates a new cross-functional headache: the packaging engineer may understand barrier performance, the printer may know the coating trade name, and regulatory may need the actual chemical declaration—but the RFQ often contains only “grease-resistant finish.”

That gap is where trouble lives.

California Is Turning Packaging Waste into a Producer Cost

California’s SB 54 framework changes the financial logic because producer responsibility pulls disposal and recovery costs back toward the businesses introducing covered packaging into the market.

The state describes packaging as more than 50% of the material dumped in California landfills by volume. Under SB 54, producers assume primary responsibility for managing covered packaging and single-use plastic food-service ware after use, rather than leaving the complete burden with municipalities and taxpayers.

That sounds abstract until the invoices arrive.

A sourcing manager comparing a $0.29 structure with a $0.34 structure may soon need to consider material-category fees, reporting requirements, recyclability determinations, source-reduction obligations and producer-responsibility organisation costs. The lowest ex-works price can become the wrong commercial answer when the cheaper material sits in a penalised or poorly recoverable category.

Sticker price lies.

Sometimes.

CalRecycle’s programme aims toward major 2032 outcomes covering single-use plastic reduction, recycling and packaging designed to be recyclable or compostable. The operational framework has continued developing; by May 1, 2026, California’s permanent SB 54 regulations had been approved and filed, becoming effective on that date.

That later development sharpens the 2024 warning rather than replacing it: procurement data, component definitions and recovery assumptions aren’t optional housekeeping anymore. They can affect legal status and programme cost.

I’d expect packaging spreadsheets to become uglier.

More columns. More codes. More documentation.

Good.

Pretty spreadsheets have hidden plenty of bad purchasing decisions.

Environmental Claims Are Becoming Litigation Risks

On September 23, 2024, the California Attorney General filed a lawsuit against ExxonMobil, alleging that the company had misled the public about plastic recyclability and the ability of recycling to solve growing plastic-waste problems. These are allegations in a filed complaint, not a final court judgment—a distinction worth stating clearly. (oag.ca.gov)

Still, procurement teams should pay attention.

Not because every packaging claim will trigger a headline-making lawsuit. Most won’t. But because the case shows how quickly familiar marketing language can be reframed as evidence: recyclablecircularadvanced recyclingwaste-freeplanet positive.

Words leave fingerprints.

The old method was to ask whether a statement sounded defensible. The better method is harsher: What exact evidence supports the complete sentence, for this complete package, in this specific sales market, under current collection and sorting conditions?

“100% recyclable” is a very large claim for a small icon.

Does it refer to technical recyclability? Curbside acceptance? Access for 60% of the population? The primary component? The structure after manual disassembly? A theoretical chemical-recycling process? A municipal programme that doesn’t exist in half the target states?

Usually, the claim doesn’t say.

That ambiguity may once have been convenient.

Now it’s exposure.

Comparing Sustainable Packaging Materials Without the Marketing Fog

I don’t believe in a universally “best” sustainable packaging material.

There. Said it.

Paper can come from responsibly managed sources, carry strong graphics and enter familiar recovery systems, yet a wet-strength layer, film lamination or heavy foil treatment may undermine the neat story. PET can deliver high clarity and low weight, but actual recovery depends on collection, sorting, colour, labels, inks and local processing. Moulded fibre removes certain plastics, though poor tolerances can lead to scuffing, rattling or product damage.

And compostable polymers?

They can make sense in controlled systems. Outside those systems, they may become expensive rubbish with impressive paperwork.

Context wins.

Notice what the table doesn’t contain: a winner.

That’s deliberate.

Sourcing teams love rankings because rankings make approval meetings faster. Yet the material sitting at number one in a generic “best sustainable packaging solutions” article may be completely wrong for an oily product, a sharp-edged component, a humid distribution route or a luxury item with a 24-month shelf-life.

A paper insert that absorbs oil and collapses isn’t sustainable.

Neither is a thin PET pack that stress-whitens along the crease and splits during packing.

You have to get into the weeds: ECT values, Mullen burst, Cobb absorption, board grain, caliper, crease rule, flange width, rPET haze, resin intrinsic viscosity, adhesive open time, rub resistance, migration limits, dimensional tolerances, board moisture and pack-out speed.

Outsiders rarely ask about those.

Factories do.

For example, a hybrid format such as a printed clear seasoning tube with paperboard ends creates visual access and a rigid closing structure, but the sustainable packaging assessment can’t stop at “paper plus clear plastic.” Someone needs to document resin type, wall gauge, end-cap weight, separation method, print coverage and whether the components reach different recovery streams.

Mixed material isn’t automatically bad.

Unexamined mixed material is.

And there’s a commercial point buyers sometimes miss: the package’s job is not to win an environmental beauty contest. Its job is to deliver the saleable product intact, with the least defensible burden across the system.

Protection first.

But not excess.

How to Source Sustainable Packaging Without Buying Greenwash

The most revealing RFQs are often the shortest.

“Need eco box. Size attached. Please quote.”

That’s not a specification. It’s an invitation for ten suppliers to make ten incompatible assumptions, then compete on prices that don’t describe the same product.

One factory quotes 350 gsm FSC Mix board. Another uses 300 gsm recycled board. One includes aqueous coating; another assumes matte BOPP lamination. One calculates an automated crash-lock base. Another expects manual gluing. Someone excludes testing. Someone quietly adds virgin PET.

The spreadsheet still compares them in one column.

Brilliant.

Define the Environmental Objective Numerically

A workable sustainable packaging sourcing brief might say:

  • Reduce finished package weight from 42 grams to 34 grams.
  • Cut dimensional volume by 15%.
  • Remove the polyethylene foam insert.
  • Use at least 50% verified post-consumer recycled PET in the transparent body.
  • Use FSC-certified paper under a valid chain-of-custody claim.
  • Keep non-paper components below 5% of total package weight.
  • Remove metallised polyester lamination.
  • Pass the agreed drop and vibration protocol without product damage.
  • Maintain barcode grade after rub testing.
  • Give component-level disposal instructions for the US and EU.
  • Fit 20% more units per export carton.

That’s a brief.

“Eco-friendly” isn’t.

Numbers create arguments early, which is exactly where you want them. Maybe the 34-gram target causes bowing. Maybe the 50% rPET target introduces haze that the brand rejects. Maybe the proposed water-based coating scuffs during automatic cartoning. Fine—now the conflict is visible, testable and negotiable.

No surprises after tooling.

Or fewer, at least.

Map Every Component, Including the Annoying Ones

Open the pack. Take it apart. Weigh everything.

Outer carton. Inner tray. PET window. Label. Lamination. Adhesive. Ribbon. Magnet. Foil. Protective sleeve. Desiccant. Void fill. Shipping carton. Tape.

All of it.

A packaging bill of materials should identify, at minimum:

  • Component name
  • Material family
  • Resin identification where relevant
  • Supplier
  • Weight in grams
  • Percentage of total pack weight
  • Virgin or recycled status
  • Post-consumer content
  • Certification claim
  • Coating or treatment
  • Joining method
  • Intended recovery route
  • Market-specific disposal language
  • Evidence file
  • Revision date

It’s tedious.

That’s why it works.

Greenwash tends to thrive in the space between the hero material and the ignored minor components. The paperboard gets audited. The magnet, foam pad, glossy lamination and polyester ribbon drift through the process as “accessories.”

Accessories add up.

Sometimes the supposedly paper package becomes a small mixed-material puzzle with a fibre skin.

Verify Forest-Based Claims Properly

I’ve seen FSC used as if it were one universal stamp meaning “good paper.”

It isn’t.

The FSC label definitions distinguish three claims. FSC 100% means the material comes from FSC-certified forests. FSC Recycled means the product uses 100% recycled materials. FSC Mix can combine material from FSC-certified forests, recycled sources and FSC-controlled wood. Those aren’t interchangeable labels, and the differences shouldn’t be smoothed over in marketing copy.

But there’s another trap.

A supplier emails a certificate PDF. The buyer files it under “approved.” Job done.

Not necessarily.

Ask:

  1. Does the legal entity on the quotation match the certificate holder?
  2. Is the certificate still active?
  3. Does its scope cover the relevant product or conversion activity?
  4. Is the material purchased under an eligible FSC claim?
  5. Is that claim carried through the sales documentation?
  6. Is the converting factory authorised to use the on-product trademark?
  7. Can the supplier show segregation or controlled accounting records?
  8. Does the final artwork use an approved label file?

The FSC chain-of-custody system is designed to verify that qualifying forest-based materials remain identified and documented from sourcing through manufacturing and distribution. FSC states that certificate holders must track certified materials and retain records relating to production, purchasing and sales.

That invoice line matters.

No traceable claim, no claim.

That’s my view, and I don’t think procurement should soften it.

Challenge Recycled-Content Percentages

“Contains 30% recycled plastic.”

Fine. Thirty percent of what?

The transparent body? The label? The complete pack? The yearly factory resin purchases? The supplied sheet? Is it PCR, PIR, regrind from the same extrusion line or a mass-balance allocation?

These aren’t small differences.

Post-consumer recycled content has already passed through consumer use and recovery. Post-industrial material may be clean factory scrap that never entered the consumer waste stream. Both can have value, but using one phrase to imply the other is sloppy.

Ask for the calculation boundary in writing:

The 300-micrometre PET body contains 50% post-consumer recycled PET by component weight, supported by batch documentation from the sheet supplier.

That sentence can be audited.

“Made with recycled materials” can’t—at least not without several follow-up emails, a translator and mild frustration.

For clear merchandising formats, a PET folding box for probiotic stick packs may combine visibility, compact containment and printed communication in one structure. Still, buyers should interrogate PET gauge, resin source, recycled percentage, crease durability, ink coverage, glue compatibility and local recovery conditions rather than assuming transparency equals simplicity.

Clear box.

Murky claim.

It happens.

The Sustainable Packaging Supplier Audit I Would Actually Use

Walk past the showroom.

Go to receiving.

That’s where supplier claims become physical: roll labels, material tags, purchase records, warehouse segregation, rejected stock, incoming-inspection forms. A sample room shows what the factory can make. The raw-material area shows what it is actually controlling this week.

Very different evidence.

A sustainable packaging supplier audit should test five things: identity, traceability, process control, substitution control and repeatability.

Not charm.

Start With the Certificate Trail

Ask the supplier for:

  • Current certificate numbers
  • Certificate holder’s exact legal name
  • Scope statements
  • Issuing certification body
  • Expiry or surveillance status
  • Material supplier declarations
  • Purchase invoices showing relevant claims
  • Batch references
  • Recycled-content records
  • Restricted-substance declarations
  • Food-contact or migration reports, where applicable
  • PFAS statements for relevant coated food-contact materials
  • Ink, coating and adhesive safety information
  • Approved environmental-claim wording
  • Nonconformance and corrective-action records

Then cross-check dates and names.

A paper mill’s FSC certificate doesn’t automatically certify the printer. A converter’s ISO 14001 certificate doesn’t prove that a specific carton contains recycled fibre. A resin supplier’s food-contact statement doesn’t automatically cover the printed, folded and glued package.

Scope creep is everywhere.

A certificate can be real and still irrelevant.

Get Into Production Control

Sustainability people sometimes avoid factory tolerances because those details feel insufficiently visionary.

Bad idea.

If the supplier can’t hold caliper, moisture, colour, crease depth, adhesive laydown or die-cut registration, the environmental benefit can disappear inside rework, rejects and obsolete stock.

Check controls for:

  • Paper grammage and caliper
  • Greyboard thickness
  • Corrugated flute profile
  • Edge crush strength
  • Cobb water absorption
  • PET or rPET gauge
  • Sheet haze and colour
  • Board moisture
  • Grain direction
  • Crease-to-cut registration
  • Fold cracking
  • Lamination bond
  • Foil adhesion
  • Rub resistance
  • Adhesive coat weight
  • Insert fit
  • Odour
  • Barcode readability
  • Compression strength
  • Carton pack-out
  • Finished unit weight

That’s the unglamorous stuff.

The real stuff.

Suppose a recycled board has more shade variation than virgin SBS. Can the brand accept that? Is there an approved ΔE tolerance? Will the factory segregate batches? Does the dark solid ink require a double hit, adding cost and drying risk? Is the board too dusty for a clean foil edge?

This is where sustainable packaging procurement either becomes engineering—or collapses back into slogans.

Ask About Substitution Before It Happens

Material substitution is rarely announced with dramatic music.

It arrives quietly.

The regular board is unavailable. The production date is fixed. The supplier proposes “equivalent material.” A project manager approves it through WeChat. Nobody updates the specification. Three weeks later the coating cracks, the shade drifts or the environmental claim no longer applies.

So write a substitution clause.

No changes to substrate mill, fibre claim, recycled percentage, resin grade, gauge, coating, adhesive, ink series, lamination, insert material or manufacturing location without written approval and a revised sample when the change can affect compliance, appearance or performance.

Harsh?

Not really.

Basic control.

Don’t Forget the Commercial Audit

A packaging solution can look brilliant and still fail because it doesn’t fit the purchasing programme.

Ask:

  • What’s the economic MOQ?
  • Is that the same as the technical MOQ?
  • Can certified stock be purchased at the order volume?
  • Is the recycled-content grade consistently available?
  • What happens when the mill allocation changes?
  • How long is the raw-material lead time?
  • Can the pack ship flat?
  • How many units fit per master carton?
  • What is the loaded carton weight?
  • Can the assembly run on the existing line?
  • Does the new coating require extra drying time?
  • What is the packing labour per 1,000 units?
  • Can one damaged component be replaced independently?
  • How is scrap handled?
  • Who pays if a material claim changes after approval?

Not glamorous questions.

Useful ones.

When Plastic Packaging Can Still Be the Responsible Choice

Plastic is easy to hate because it’s visible, persistent and—too often—used carelessly.

But “replace plastic” isn’t a complete packaging strategy.

Sometimes a thin PET structure protects a product with less weight than a heavily reinforced fibre alternative. Sometimes transparency removes the need for a printed window carton plus a separate display tray. Sometimes a moisture barrier prevents spoilage, leakage or corrosion. And sometimes a badly planned paper conversion simply moves the burden elsewhere.

I’m not defending plastic excess.

I’m defending competent comparison.

The EPA’s 2024 strategy calls for reducing single-use plastic consumption and assessing environmental and health effects across the lifecycle; it doesn’t erase the need to evaluate the function performed by a material before changing it.

Function first.

Then reduction.

A clear retail-ready PET folding box for fish-oil mini packs may consolidate display, grouping and visibility into a lightweight structure. Whether it qualifies as a better sustainable packaging solution still depends on gauge, resin composition, print area, adhesives, pack density and actual PET recovery in the destination market.

The audit questions should be blunt:

  • Can the gauge drop from 350 μm to 300 μm without panel collapse?
  • Is rPET available with acceptable haze?
  • Does the crease turn white after repeated folding?
  • Is the glue approved for the resin and production speed?
  • Are dark inks covering too much surface?
  • Can the label be removed during washing?
  • Does the structure use PET throughout, or is another polymer introduced?
  • Can the buyer document food-contact compliance where needed?
  • Does the market collect this format—not merely PET beverage bottles?

That final distinction is frequently lost.

A municipal programme may accept PET bottles while rejecting thermoforms, opaque PET, small formats or heavily printed structures. Resin code 1 isn’t a magic boarding pass into a recycling facility.

Local rules win.

The broader range of clear plastic packaging structures should therefore be assessed by function: product visibility, barrier needs, insert protection, tamper evidence, display efficiency and material weight. Plastic used with discipline can outperform an overbuilt alternative. Plastic used decoratively, with no recovery plan, is harder to defend.

That’s the line.

Not “plastic bad, paper good.”

Procurement should be better than bumper-sticker thinking.

Cost, Freight and Failure Rates: The Numbers Procurement Often Ignores

I once saw a packaging cost comparison where the cheaper box won by six cents.

Nobody included product damage.

Nobody included repacking labour.

Nobody included the replacement courier fee.

The six-cent saving looked terrific—right until reality entered the spreadsheet.

The true commercial calculation is closer to this:

Total packaging cost = unit price + tooling + testing + assembly labour + freight + storage + damage + compliance fees + waste + redesign exposure

Messy equation.

Better decision.

Take a hypothetical 100,000-unit programme:

  • Package A costs $0.38.
  • Package B costs $0.44.
  • Package A produces a 3% damage rate.
  • Package B produces a 0.5% damage rate.
  • The product value is $18.

Package A saves $6,000 at the packaging line. Wonderful.

But the 2.5-percentage-point difference represents 2,500 additional damaged units. At $18 each, that’s $45,000 in product value before replacement shipping, labour, refunds, complaints or retailer chargebacks.

Cheap box.

Expensive procurement.

And damage isn’t the only hidden number.

  • 20% lighter
  • 30% recycled content
  • 15% less plastic
  • 100% recyclable
  • 40% lower carbon

Measured where?

Under which assumptions?

A 20% lighter carton isn’t a success if the master carton needs extra dividers. A 30% recycled PET claim tells us little if the full package is only 12% PET by weight. A reusable box isn’t low-impact after 20 cycles when the average return rate produces 1.7 cycles.

The denominator is where marketing claims go to hide.

So build the sourcing model around scenarios, not one number:

Scenario A: Lowest Unit Cost

Useful for price pressure. Often weak on traceability, optimisation or future regulatory exposure.

Scenario B: Lowest Material Weight

Useful for reduction. Must survive pack-out, distribution and shelf conditions.

Scenario C: Highest Recycled Content

Useful where verified secondary material displaces virgin input. Watch stiffness, colour, odour, availability and food-contact limitations.

Scenario D: Best Recovery Compatibility

Useful where the target market collects and processes the actual finished structure. Avoid theoretical recovery claims.

Scenario E: Lowest Total Delivered Cost

Usually the adult answer.

Build a Sustainable Packaging Specification That Can Survive Scrutiny

Don’t send another supplier an email asking for an “eco-friendly box.”

Send dimensions.

Send weights.

Send the destination markets, annual volume, filling process, packing speed, barrier conditions, drop-test expectations, material restrictions, certification requirements and the exact claim marketing wants to print.

Then request three proposals:

  1. The lowest-material construction
  2. The strongest recovery-compatible construction
  3. The best balance of protection, cost and documented environmental performance

And make suppliers show their work.

Ask for the component bill of materials. Ask for the finished package weight. Ask which party holds each certificate. Ask whether recycled content is PCR or PIR. Ask for the test plan, master-carton pack quantity and pallet calculation. Ask what changes when the order falls below the mill’s MOQ.

Awkward questions save money.

Later.

Before approving the artwork, put every environmental statement through a simple challenge:

  • What exactly does the claim describe?
  • Which components does it cover?
  • In which markets is it accurate?
  • What evidence file supports it?
  • Who approved it?
  • When must it be reviewed again?

If nobody can answer those questions, remove the claim.

That’s not timid marketing.
